Are You Inadvertently Sabotaging Your Diet?

We all understand that the top foods to consume when we want to lose weight are healthy fats, whole grains and lean meats. These food items fill us with protein along with energy. They keep our bodies nicely balanced nutritionally but don’t stuff us full of empty calories that will later have to be burned off at the gym. Did you realize however that a few of the diet foods you’ve been consuming may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They may be trying to keep you from slimming down altogether! Check out a number of the food items that might be allowing you to accidentally sabotage your diet.

Sports Drinks may not be aiding you whatsoever. You have possibly been told that a sports drink is the fastest way to replenish your body’s electrolyte levels after a workout. Most physicians concur, however, that if your workout is shorter than ninety minutes, drinking water should be fine. Sports drinks are rich in calories and sugar and a bunch of other stuff like artificial flavors and colors that will defeat any of your attempts at eating a natural plus healthy diet. Choose chocolate milk for your beverage as a substitute. Your body uses the sugar inside the chocolate for muscle mass repair and everyone knows how good milk is for you.

Protein Shakes are certainly not your friend. So many people believe that consuming a protein shake is a good way to stop cravings when it isn’t meal time. When you are eating an normally healthy diet, however, a protein shake merely sends you into protein overdose. Converse to common belief, protein is not stored as muscle fiber, it’s stored as fat. If you’ve already eaten your daily allotment of protein that day, your whole body will just keep the extra in your fat cells for later and that won’t help you drop pounds or inches.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn’t nearly as healthy as you might think it is. You probably are convinced a sandwich that is made from pre-packaged lean deli meat and whole grain bread is a pretty good lunch. Actually, pre-packaged deli meat has far too many preservatives and sodium (one serving contains about a third of the amount of sodium you should eat in a day). This will probably be especially harmful if you are at risk of contracting heart disease. Instead of selecting deli meat, choose home prepared chicken or other poultry or fresh deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter. Sure these are generally a lot more expensive options but they are rather a lot healthier for you.

There are lots of things that we believe are better than others like choosing a whole wheat bagel each morning when the truth is that a bowl of cinnamon sprinkled oatmeal is a much healthier choice. Ask your doctor what the best methods for you to eat healthfully are and then follow those directions. If you give consideration and are watchful about which kind of food you let yourself eat, losing weight isn’t going to be a terribly big deal.
